About Travis Garland
Travis Garland is an American singer and dancer. He first gained prominence as the frontman and lead singer of the pop and R&B boy band Not Like Them, also known as NLT. Following the group's split, Garland established himself as a solo recording artist and songwriter.
Garland grew up in Lubbock, Texas, where he was exposed to the arts at a young age. He initially sang and acted in plays at his church before attending the School for the Performing Arts in junior high school, where he received extensive training in music and theater. At the age of 14, Garland won a nationwide acting competition and relocated to Los Angeles, California. After signing with a manager and agent, he attended daytime auditions while using his nights to develop his songwriting skills.
Following a chance meeting with a friend from Dallas, Garland joined NLT alongside Kevin McHale, Justin Joseph "JJ" Thorne, and V Sevani. Discovered by producer Chris Stokes, the group signed to TUG Entertainment in 2006 and later secured a major label deal directed by Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair. Working as the group's frontman and one of two lead singers, Garland recorded with producers and songwriters including Pharrell, Ne-Yo, and Ryan Tedder. NLT opened on tour for The Pussycat Dolls and earned a Top 40 hit in 2007 with the Timbaland-produced single "She Said, I Said (Time We Let Go)." The band also headlined the national House of Blues "The 2009 Bandemonium Tour" alongside V Factory and Menudo before Garland confirmed their disbandment on Myspace in May 2009.
Transitioning to a solo career, Garland was represented by JT Entertainment in 2010 and connected with Perez Hilton via Myspace. He shared various demos and covers on YouTube, including a song titled "Sexy Together," which was later modified by producers and sold to Justin Bieber under the title "Never Say Never." On May 19, 2010, Garland premiered his Danja-produced debut single, "Believe," on American Idol, releasing it on iTunes the same day.
In January 2011, Garland released a five-track mixtape titled The Last Man Standing through his official website, followed by a YouTube release of the song "Paint" with JoJo in July 2011. While managing himself, he began working with the production group The Stereotypes. Garland released a free EP titled Fashionably Late in October 2012 and performed a sold-out concert at The Roxy Theatre with Tori Kelly that same week.
Garland released a music video for the single "Clouds" in August 2013, followed by his self-titled debut album, Travis Garland, on September 10, 2013. He later released the single "Curvin' Everybody" on iTunes in October 2017.
In July 2022, Garland's track "Where To Land" was sampled on Beyoncé's song "Heated." He released a two-song mashup in April 2023 and subsequently became a contestant on Season 21 of America's Got Talent.
