Sandra Hüller

Sandra Hüller is a German actress regarded as one of the most acclaimed European performers of her generation, known for the intensity and precision she brings to complex, morally ambiguous roles. Born on 30 April 1978 in Suhl, in the former East Germany, she trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin and built her early reputation on the German stage, becoming a celebrated ensemble member at theatres in Basel, Leipzig and Munich and twice being named Actress of the Year by the magazine Theater heute.

Her cinematic breakthrough came with Requiem (2006), for which she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival. International recognition followed with Maren Ade's tragicomedy Toni Erdmann (2016), a Cannes sensation that earned her the European Film Award for Best Actress. Hüller reached a new level of global prominence in 2023 with two landmark films: Justine Triet's courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall, which won the Palme d'Or and brought Hüller an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest, in which she played the wife of an Auschwitz commandant.
