Ortiz-Magro was born in the Bronx in New York City and is of Puerto Rican and Italian descent. Prior to entering reality television, he worked in real estate for his father.

Ortiz-Magro joined the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore in August 2009. The show premiered on December 4, 2009, and ran for six seasons before concluding in 2012. During this period, he expanded into other media, making an appearance at TNA Wrestling's Impact Wrestling in October 2011 in Macon, Georgia, where he teamed with Eric Young to defeat Robbie E and Rob Terry. In 2012, he appeared alongside his Jersey Shore co-stars in the film The Three Stooges. He has also been featured in Xenadrine advertisements.

Following the conclusion of Jersey Shore, Ortiz-Magro appeared on several other television programs. In 2017, he participated in the second season of the E! reality series Famously Single. In 2018, he appeared in an episode of Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry and competed on Celebrity Fear Factor. That same year, he became a main cast member on MTV's Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. He announced on May 13, 2021, that he was stepping back from the series to focus on his mental health. After a two-year hiatus, he made a guest appearance in season six in 2023 to make amends with former castmates, subsequently returning in a recurring role for the seventh season in 2024.

Ortiz-Magro's personal life has involved several relationships. He was in an on-and-off relationship with his Jersey Shore co-star Sammi Giancola from 2009 until May 2016. In December 2017, he announced he was expecting a child with his girlfriend Jen Harley. Their daughter, Ariana Sky Magro, was born in April 2018. The couple's relationship ended shortly after, though they later maintained an on-and-off relationship. In January 2019, Ortiz-Magro entered a month-long rehabilitation program for alcohol and depression. Both Ortiz-Magro and Harley were involved in domestic incidents; Harley was arrested in June 2018 and May 2019 following physical altercations, while Ortiz-Magro was arrested on felony domestic violence charges in Los Angeles in October 2019.

In November 2020, Ortiz-Magro began dating Saffire Matos. He was arrested again on felony domestic violence charges in Los Angeles in April 2021 while on probation. Despite becoming engaged in June 2021, Ortiz-Magro called off the engagement around June 2022 to concentrate on his mental health and his daughter. In March 2023, he shared during an episode of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation that he had been granted full custody of his daughter Ariana and had relocated to Miami, Florida, where he opened a sneaker retail business called Sneaker Clinic.
