NLE Choppa

Bryson LaShun Potts, known professionally as NLE Choppa (formerly YNR Choppa and also known as NLE the Great), is an American rapper and YouTuber from Memphis, Tennessee. Managed by his mother, Angela Potts, he gained national recognition in 2019 with his breakout single "Shotta Flow." Potts subsequently launched his own record label, No Love Entertainment (NLE), in partnership with Warner Records.

Potts was born on November 1, 2002, to an African American father and a Jamaican mother. Raised in the Parkway Village area of southeastern Memphis, he attended Cordova High School, where he played basketball. He began freestyling at age 15 and pursued music seriously at 16. During his youth, he served time in a juvenile detention center, an experience he later credited with motivating him to improve his behavior.

Potts released his first song, "No Love Anthem," in March 2018, followed by his debut mixtape, No Love the Takeover, in July. Online attention surrounding his verse on "No Chorus Pt. 3" preceded his January 2019 breakthrough single "Shotta Flow," which peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Despite label bidding offers reaching $3 million, Potts partnered with UnitedMasters to retain his master recordings and publishing. That same year, he released the top 40 single "Camelot" and his debut extended play, Cottonwood.

In August 2020, Potts released his debut studio album, Top Shotta, which reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 and spawned the top 40 single "Walk Em Down" featuring Roddy Ricch. Named to XXL's 2020 Freshman Class, Potts announced a shift away from violent lyrics to focus on positivity and spirituality, releasing his mixtape From Dark to Light later that year.

Potts released his fifth mixtape, Me vs. Me, in January 2022, featuring guest artists such as Young Thug, Polo G, G Herbo, Moneybagg Yo, and Lil Durk. In 2023, he released his second studio album, Cottonwood 2, which featured his highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 single, "Slut Me Out." He also released subsequent installments of his signature track series, including "Shotta Flow 7" in December 2023. Beyond recording, Potts published a children's book, Cricket Stop Cricking, in April 2025 to encourage literacy.

Musically, Potts is known for energetic rapping, animated vocal delivery, and heavy-hitting melodic tones. He drew early inspiration from Lil Wayne, UGK, and local Memphis artists. Outside of music, Potts launched the YouTube channel "Awakened Choppa" in 2020 to document his holistic lifestyle, veganism, and gardening. A Christian who was baptized in August 2026, he is a father of two children.
