Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley (February 1, 1968 – January 12, 2023) was an American singer-songwriter. She was the only child of singer and actor Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she became the sole heir to her father's estate following the deaths of her grandfather and great-grandmother. On her 25th birthday in 1993, she inherited the estate, which was estimated at $100 million, and later sold 85 percent of Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2004.

Presley launched her official music career on April 8, 2003, with her debut studio album, To Whom It May Concern. She wrote all the lyrics and co-wrote every melody for the album, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and earned a gold certification from the RIAA. The lead single, "Lights Out," charted in both the United States and the United Kingdom. That same year, Presley performed alongside Pat Benatar at the VH1 Divas Duets concert and contributed to the NBC Holiday Collection Sounds of the Season.

In April 2005, Presley released her second studio album, Now What, which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. The album featured co-written tracks, covers of songs by Don Henley and the Ramones, and a guest appearance by Pink. Around this time, she appeared in the Ramones documentary Too Tough to Die and featured in the Grammy Award-winning music video for Johnny Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down." In 2007, she released a virtual duet with her father titled "In the Ghetto" to benefit homeless housing programs.

Presley's third studio album, Storm & Grace, was released in May 2012. Produced by T Bone Burnett, the rootsy, organic record received critical praise for its soulful tone. In 2018, Presley was featured on a digitally created duet titled "Where No One Stands Alone" for a compilation of her father's gospel recordings. Prior to her death, she recorded audio tapes that were compiled into a posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, completed by her daughter Riley Keough and published in October 2024.

Throughout her life, Presley engaged in extensive humanitarian work. She formed the Presley Charitable Foundation, which opened Presley Place in 2001 to provide rent-free housing, childcare, and job counseling to homeless families. Following Hurricane Katrina, she partnered with Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network to distribute supplies to displaced residents in Mississippi and Tennessee. Additionally, she was involved with the Grammy Foundation, presenting awards and participating in career mentoring for music students.

In her personal life, Presley was married to musician and actor Danny Keough, with whom she had two children, Riley and Benjamin, before divorcing in 1994. She was also widely known for her marriage to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996. Presley publicly addressed her personal struggles, including her battle with opioid addiction following a prescription in 2008. She passed away on January 12, 2023, though opioids were determined not to be a contributing factor in her death.
