Ilse DeLange

Ilse Annoeska de Lange, known professionally as Ilse DeLange, is a Dutch country and pop rock singer-songwriter born on 13 May 1977 in Almelo, Netherlands. She began her career at the age of eight as a lip-synching artist, winning several contests. She later switched to a live repertoire, performing in regional and national talent shows in Hilversum and booking television appearances. After forming a duo with guitarist Joop van Liefland, who introduced her to country music, she won the 1994 SCPO talent show in Oss and the Zangfestival der Onbekenden in Eindhoven.

In 1996, DeLange joined the pop group Wij and released the single De Oorlog Meegemaakt. In 1998, while a member of Cash On Delivery, she traveled to Nashville to record her debut album, World of Hurt, with producer Barry Beckett. The album went 5x Platinum in the Netherlands, driven by her breakthrough single I'm Not So Tough. The following year, she released the live album Dear John, featuring covers of John Hiatt songs, which achieved platinum status. Her second studio album, Livin' on Love (2000), marked a shift toward pop and rock and was certified platinum.

DeLange took on a greater creative role for her third studio album, Clean Up (2003), receiving songwriting credits across the project as it debuted at number one and went gold. Following the disbandment of Warner Music's Dutch section, she signed with Universal Music and released The Great Escape in 2006. The 2x Platinum album produced hits such as the title track and The Lonely One. In 2008, she released Incredible, which reached 5x Platinum status and featured So Incredible alongside her top-charting single Miracle. She followed this with the double-platinum EP Next To Me in 2010.

In 2012, DeLange released her platinum seventh album, Eye of the Hurricane, featuring the single Hurricane. Beyond her solo recording career, she expanded into television in 2013 by becoming a coach on The Voice of Holland. She also joined the coaching panels for The Voice Kids, winning the 2016 season with team member Esmée Scheurs, and The Voice Senior, winning the 2019 season with Ruud Hermans.

In 2014, DeLange formed the group The Common Linnets alongside singer Waylon. The duo represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, taking second place with Calm After The Storm. The track became a major hit across Europe, and their debut album achieved triple-platinum status. Following this success, DeLange established the Tuckerville country festival in Enschede. In 2019, she presented, directed, and mentored Duncan Laurence as the Dutch Eurovision entry, leading to his victory with Arcade.

Throughout her career, DeLange has earned widespread industry recognition. She has won numerous Edison Awards, receiving honors in 1998, 2001, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2020. Internationally, her most prominent accolade is the Jeff Walker Global Country Music Award from the Country Music Association Awards.
