Raised in Amsterdam, Simons grew up in a family of musicians. Her mother, Ingrid Simons, is a vocalist of Surinamese origin who worked with Paul Elstak and T-Spoon, and was part of the group Say When. Her father was a pianist who inspired her to learn piano, and her grandfather was accordionist Johnny Meijer. As a teenager, Simons sang with the ensemble Jody's Kids before graduating from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
In 2001, Simons sang on Cooper's single "I Believe in Love." After graduating in 2004, she joined the group Raffish through the Dutch contest Popstars The Rivals. Raffish achieved a hit single with "Plaything" and released the album How Raffish Are You? in January 2005. Simons left the group later that summer after two follow-up singles saw limited success.
In 2009, a leaked demo of her song "Silly Boy" reached four million views on YouTube, prompting her to sign a deal with EMI. In 2010, Simons co-wrote "Take Over Control" with Mike Hamilton. Produced by DJ Afrojack, the song topped iTunes dance charts globally, spent six weeks on the Billboard Top Dance Airplay Chart, earned Gold certification in the United States, and reached Platinum status in Australia. Simons received a BMI Songwriting Award for the track in October 2012.
Simons signed a major US label deal in 2011, featured on LMFAO's track "Best Night," and collaborated on tracks for will.i.am's album #willpower. In 2012, she released the Zedd-produced single "I Don't Like You," joined LMFAO on tour, and released the single "Renegade." Her featured performance on will.i.am's "This Is Love" reached number one in the United Kingdom. In April 2013, she supported Beyoncé on The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in the Netherlands and released the single "Chemistry" alongside a Pepsi ad campaign.
In 2014, Simons released a bootleg remix of Martin Garrix's "Animals," married Sidney Samson, and made her acting debut in the film Heksen Bestaan Niet. She released the dancehall single "Policeman" in April 2015 and "Bludfire" in November 2015. Her later singles include "Guaya" in 2017, "The One" in 2018, and "Like That" in 2019. In 2025, Simons played Mary in the Dutch television program and live event The Passion.
