Elle King

Tanner Elle Schneider, known professionally as Elle King, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress born on July 3, 1989. Her musical style integrates influences from country, rock, R&B, and blues. She uses her mother's surname to distinguish her professional career and identity from her father, actor and comedian Rob Schneider. King is a four-time Grammy Award nominee in both the rock and country categories, and she has received honors from the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards.

King was born in Los Angeles County, California, to Rob Schneider and former model London King. Following her parents' divorce, she moved to Ohio with her mother, living in Columbus and Wellston. When she was nine years old, her stepfather, Justin Tesa, gave her a record by the all-female hard-rock band the Donnas, which inspired her decision to pursue music. At age 13, she began playing guitar, immersing herself in music by artists such as Otis Redding, Etta James, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash, and later learned the banjo. She spent her teenage years in New York City, attended Buck's Rock camp in Connecticut, and graduated from the Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School before enrolling at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to study painting and film.

King made her acting debut in 1999 alongside her father in the film Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. At age 16, she began performing in New York City nightclubs using a fake ID, honing her music skills through busking. Signed by RCA Chairman Peter Edge, she released her debut single, "Good To Be A Man," in March 2012, followed by The Elle King EP in June 2012. The EP's lead track, "Playing for Keeps," was selected as the theme song for VH1's Mob Wives Chicago. Highlighted as an "Artist to Watch in 2012" by Esquire, she made several television appearances and toured with acts including Of Monsters and Men, Train, and Ed Sheeran.

In September 2014, King released "Ex's & Oh's" as the lead single from her debut studio album, Love Stuff, which arrived in February 2015. "Ex's & Oh's" reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned two nominations at the 58th Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. In 2016, her single "Good Girls" appeared on the Ghostbusters soundtrack, and she collaborated with Dierks Bentley on "Different for Girls," winning Musical Event of the Year at the 50th CMA Awards.

King released her second studio album, Shake the Spirit, in October 2018 with her band, the Brethren. Throughout 2019, she served as a guest co-host on MTV's Catfish: The TV Show. In January 2023, she released her third album, Come Get Your Wife, marking a style shift into country music. The album included the single "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" with Miranda Lambert, which peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Her recent work also includes contributing a cover of "Feelin' Alright" to the animated film The Bad Guys in 2022 and performing at the Grand Ole Opry in January 2024.
