Damiano David

Damiano David is an Italian singer and songwriter best known as the frontman of the rock band Måneskin. He rose to international prominence after leading the group to victories at both the Sanremo Music Festival 2021 and the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Zitti e buoni". In 2024, David launched a solo musical career, releasing singles and a studio album alongside embarking on a solo concert tour.

David was born on 8 January 1999 in Rome, Italy, to flight attendants Daniele David and Rossella Scognamiglio. Owing to his parents' work, he and his older brother, Jacopo, travelled worldwide throughout their youth. David began singing at six years old. He played basketball as a point guard for the local club Eurobasket Roma until age 17, noting that the sport taught him key discipline. He attended the liceo linguistico Eugenio Montale in Rome, but left high school to pursue music full-time with his parents' support.

While in high school, David met Victoria De Angelis and Thomas Raggi. Although initially turned down as their band's vocalist for being "too pop", his insistence led to his acceptance. In 2016, they formed Måneskin, initially performing as street buskers in Rome. The band gained national recognition in 2017 by placing second on the eleventh season of the Italian X Factor. They followed this with their breakthrough debut album, Il ballo della vita, in 2018, extensive touring in 2018 and 2019, and their second album, Teatro d'ira: Vol. I, in 2021.

Following their 2021 Eurovision win, David addressed false allegations of drug use during the final by voluntarily taking a drug test, which tested negative. A vocal anti-drug advocate alongside his bandmates, David maintains that he has never used hard drugs and believes creativity relies on a clear, healthy mind. In other media, he voiced the character Jeffrey for the Italian dub of the 2021 film Cruella, covered the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog", and appeared in Anitta's 2023 music video for "Mil Veces".

David officially launched his solo career in September 2024 with the Labrinth-produced single "Silverlines", followed by "Born with a Broken Heart" in October. In 2025, he performed as a special guest at the Sanremo Music Festival and released his debut solo studio album, Funny Little Fears, through Sony Music Italy and Arista Records. He subsequently embarked on his first solo concert tour in 2025. Compared to his work with Måneskin, his solo music features a softer, pop sound.

Recognized for his charismatic stage presence and an androgynous fashion style mixing 1970s hippie, vintage, and glam rock elements, David has been called an Italian fashion icon. Beyond music, he is fluent in Italian and English, speaks some Spanish and French, and advocates for racial and LGBTQ rights. He was in a relationship with model Giorgia Soleri until June 2023, and announced his engagement to actress and singer Dove Cameron in January 2026.
