Dressel swam collegiately for the University of Florida Gators from 2014 to 2018 under head coach Gregg Troy. During his collegiate career, he won ten individual NCAA titles and set long-standing American records in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly.

International Success and Olympic Career

Dressel made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, winning two relay gold medals. At the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, he won eight medals, including six golds. Dressel reached the pinnacle of his career at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he captured five gold medals, including individual gold in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and 100-meter butterfly. He expanded his Olympic medal count at the 2024 Paris Olympics by securing gold in the 4x100-meter freestyle and mixed 4x100-meter medley relays, along with a silver in the men's medley relay.
