Ayu Ting Ting

Ayu Rosmalina, better known by her stage name Ayu Ting Ting, is an Indonesian singer and presenter. Widely recognized as one of Indonesia's dangdut divas, she rose to national prominence following the sudden virality and popularity of her song "Alamat Palsu" ("Fake Address") in 2011.

Born on June 20, 1992, in Depok, West Java, Ayu was raised by her parents, Abdul Rojak and Umi Kalsum. Her father, who worked as a civil servant, is of mixed Betawi and Chinese descent, while her mother is of Sundanese descent. She began modeling at five years old, which coincided with her initial introduction to dangdut music. At age 14, she started her formal musical career as a wedding singer, earning Rp. 250,000 (US$28) per performance, and was named Miss Depok that same year.

In 2007, Ayu recorded her debut solo studio album, Dilanjut Aja (Just Continue), released through Akurama Records. The album included "Alamat Palsu," written by a man from Tasikmalaya, alongside the track "Ting Ting." The word "ting ting" in Indonesian translates to "virgin," and the song included lyrics such as "saya masih ting-ting / dan terjamin ting-ting" ("I'm still ting-ting / and guaranteed to be ting-ting"). At the suggestion of her music producers, she added "Ting Ting" to her given name to establish her stage name.

In 2010, Ayu enrolled at Gunadarma University to pursue a bachelor's degree in management. The following year, in 2011, five years after its original release, "Alamat Palsu" unexpectedly experienced a rapid surge in popularity across Indonesia. The song's breakthrough was largely propelled by covers performed by Indonesian comedian Sule and singer Olga Syahputra.

Ayu's artistic style is defined by a focus on her singing voice rather than sensual movements or selling her body, distinguishing her from common practices in dangdut culture. Influenced by Korean fashion, her attempts to remain authentic to herself earned applause from fellow dangdut artist Julia Perez. Before achieving stardom, she was described as a tomboy who rarely wore makeup. Additionally, Ayu expressed discomfort with the genre's sawer culture, once halting a performance after a member of the audience approached her with money and kissed her hands.

Alongside her admiration for the dangdut singer Dewi Persik, Ayu is a dedicated fan of K-pop, and in September 2017, she was invited to Music Bank where she performed K-pop songs in style. On February 4, 2013, Ayu married Henry Baskoro Hendarso (née Enji), and gave birth to their daughter, Bilqis Khumairah Razak, on December 31, 2013, in Jakarta. She filed for divorce at the Depok Religious Court on January 27, 2014, which was finalized by verstek on April 1, 2014. She was later in a four-month relationship with Indian actor Shaheer Sheikh in 2015. Ayu continues to reside in Depok, West Java.
