The ceremony was hosted by sports and entertainment journalist Sibley Scoles, featuring speeches by fellow Walk of Fame honoree Ming-Na Wen and actor Darren Criss. Born in Manila, Salonga first achieved international stardom in 1989 when she was cast as Kim in the original West End production of Miss Saigon. She later reprised the role on Broadway, earning the 1991 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and becoming the first Asian woman to win the prestigious award. Throughout her legendary theatrical career, she has starred in iconic Broadway productions including Les Misérables, where she made history as the first Asian actor to portray Éponine and Fantine, as well as Flower Drum Song, Allegiance, and Once on This Island.
Beyond her celebrated stage repertoire, Salonga holds a permanent place in pop culture history as the singing voice for two iconic Disney princesses. She provided the singing voices for Princess Jasmine in the 1992 animated classic Aladdin and the titular heroine in 1998's Mulan, performing timeless classics such as A Whole New World and Reflection.
