Vivian Tu

Vivian Tu, also recognized by the brand name Your Rich BFF, is an American media personality, author, and entrepreneur. She serves as the founder and chief executive officer of Your Rich BFF, a multimedia venture focused on delivering accessible financial education to the public.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Tu was raised as an only child by Chinese immigrant parents. Her mother worked in the fields of chemistry and consulting, while her father was employed as a computer programmer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. During her childhood, Tu frequently assisted her non-native English speaking parents by translating during financial matters. She completed high school as valedictorian at Marriotts Ridge High School in 2012 before attending the University of Chicago, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 2016.

After graduating from college, Tu began her professional career at J.P. Morgan as an equities trader specializing in the energy, materials, and industrial sectors. Experiencing a male-dominated environment and workplace challenges, she subsequently left traditional finance to join BuzzFeed as a digital media sales representative, eventually becoming the media outlet's top sales producer. During her time at BuzzFeed, colleagues and acquaintances sought her advice on money management. Recognizing a demand for simplified financial guidance, she began producing educational content online to explain complex economic concepts.

In 2021, Tu began posting financial tips on TikTok. She left BuzzFeed in 2022 to pursue full-time content creation and signed with talent agency William Morris Endeavor. By December 2024, her audience expanded to eight million followers across various social channels, with Instagram hosting her largest single following. Her content primarily addresses methods for saving money, budget travel strategies, and investment practices.

Tu broadened her multimedia offerings in 2023 by launching the podcast Networth & Chill in partnership with Audioboom. The show later partnered with Vox Media and PS for its second season. In December 2023, she published her debut book, Rich AF: The Winning Money Mindset that Will Change Your Life, which reached bestseller status on the New York Times lists for Business as well as Advice, How To & Miscellaneous.

Her work has earned numerous industry recognitions. Tu has been listed on the Forbes 30 Under 30 and Forbes Top Creators lists. She received a Meta Visionary Voices award in 2023, the Bankrate Best Personal Finance Influencer title in 2024, a TikTok Visionary Voices award honoring AAPI creators, and the Digital Influencer of the Year Award at the Unforgettable Gala in December 2024. Additionally, she earned nominations for a Webby Award, multiple Shorty Awards, and iHeartRadio Podcast Awards for Networth & Chill.

On the personal front, Tu married Greg Hunt in Lake Como, Italy, on June 29, 2024. She has also publicly addressed her personal use and financing of cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, on her digital channels.
