Lakey Peterson

Laura Louise "Lakey" Peterson (born September 30, 1994) is an American professional surfer who is a top competitor on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour. Renowned for her powerful rail work and innovative maneuvers, Peterson achieved a career-high WSL ranking of world No. 2. Raised in Santa Barbara, California, she emerged as a pioneering talent in women's surfing at a young age and remains one of the sport's most prominent figures.

Early Life and Breakthrough

Peterson's ocean journey began at age five during a globetrotting family trip, where locals at Manly Beach, Australia, dubbed her "Lakey Legend." After returning to California, she excelled in various sports before refocusing on surfing at age twelve. In 2009, at age fourteen, she made history by landing the first female aerial maneuver in National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) competition history, going on to win the NSSA Open Women's National Title.

Professional Surfing Career

By sixteen, Peterson qualified for the ASP Women's World Championship Tour, making her rookie debut in 2012. She captured her first major victory that same year at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Over her career, Peterson has earned multiple Championship Tour victories, including wins at the Margaret River Pro and the Corona Open J-Bay. She finished as the runner-up for the world title in 2018 and placed third overall in 2019.
