Kalie Shorr

Kalie Shorr is an American rock and country music singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on July 11, 1994, she first gained national attention in 2016 following the release of her debut single, "Fight Like a Girl." She is best known for her music releases, including her debut studio album Open Book, as well as her social media content and public advocacy work.

Shorr grew up in Portland, Maine, writing her first song at age 6 and taking up the guitar at age 13. During middle and high school, she played in bands, including a Nirvana cover band, and began posting song covers on YouTube at age 13. In 2010, she won the Southern Maine title in Maine's Got Talent. Blogger Perez Hilton noticed her YouTube videos and invited her to open for the Backstreet Boys at his birthday party in March 2012.

After visiting Nashville at age 16, Shorr relocated there at age 19 to pursue country music. In March 2014, she began regularly performing in Song Suffragettes, a weekly showcase for female singer-songwriters, and became the first artist featured in Taste of Country's Let The Girls Play campaign. Popdust highlighted her cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," and in February 2015, Shorr released an EP of original demos titled The Nashville Sessions.

Shorr's career expanded in 2016 when "Fight Like a Girl" received airplay on SiriusXM's The Highway. That year, she released The Y2K Mixtape, signed a publishing deal with Writerslist, and released her second single, "He's Just Not That into You." In March 2017, she released Slingshot, a five-song EP combining pop and country elements.

Shorr released her debut full-length album, Open Book, on September 27, 2019, which The New York Times named the seventh best album of 2019. In October 2020, she signed with tmwrk records, releasing a expanded edition titled Open Book: Unabridged in December 2020. In 2021, she released the Butch Walker-produced EP I Got Here By Accident, marking her first release outside the country genre, which they supported with a performance at the Grand Ole Opry.

Following a hiatus, Shorr created a viral multi-part social media series called "How I Got Unfamous" detailing her period of absence. The series led to renewed popularity, after which she released the single "Unkiss" on January 30, 2025, and the EP My Type on July 11, 2025.

In her personal life, Shorr identifies as queer. Following the drug overdose death of her sister, Ashley Rhiannon Coffman, in 2019, Shorr became an advocate for harm reduction access and legalization, earning a 2024 Webby Award nomination for an episode of In The Room with Peter Bergen. She announced a COVID-19 diagnosis in March 2020 and confirmed a relationship with musician Sam Varga in 2021.
