Dolly Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton (1946–2026) was an American singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. Recognized as one of country music's most successful and influential artists, she composed thousands of songs across a career spanning seven decades. Parton gained widespread fame as a recording artist and songwriter, releasing dozens of studio albums and earning numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards and inductions into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Her catalog includes signature songs such as "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You." As an actress, she starred in feature films including "9 to 5" and "Steel Magnolias." Beyond her music and screen roles, Parton expanded into commerce and entertainment ventures, co-owning the Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and launching various hospitality and consumer brand lines.

Parton was also widely noted for her philanthropic initiatives, most prominently through the Dollywood Foundation. Her flagship program, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, launched in 1995 to distribute free books to young children worldwide to foster early literacy. Throughout her career, she also contributed to regional educational initiatives and disaster relief efforts.

Born in Sevier County, Tennessee, Parton began performing in her youth and relocated to Nashville in 1964 to pursue a professional music career. She initial gained national television exposure on "The Porter Wagoner Show" before establishing a prolific solo career. Parton passed away in August 2026 at the age of 80 in Nashville, Tennessee.
