About Danielle Collins

Danielle Rose Collins is an American tennis player who has reached career-high WTA rankings of No. 7 in singles and No. 79 in doubles. She has won four WTA singles titles, including a WTA 1000 title at the 2024 Miami Open, as well as one doubles title. Known for her strong performances at Grand Slam events, Collins reached her first major singles final at the 2022 Australian Open.

Born on December 13, 1993, Collins is the daughter of Walter and Cathy Collins and is of Dutch descent on her mother's side. She graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2012. During her youth, she trained at the Isla Del Sol Yacht & Country Club and the IMG Academy. Rated as the No. 2 recruit in her high school class, she accepted a scholarship to the University of Florida, where she played one season of collegiate tennis.

Collins subsequently transferred to the University of Virginia, compiling a 101–20 record with the Virginia Cavaliers. She helped lead Virginia to consecutive ACC Championships in 2014 and 2015 while earning All-ACC first-team honors in all three of her seasons. She won the NCAA singles championship in 2014 and 2016, finishing her collegiate career as the top-ranked player in the country and earning the Honda Sports Award. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in media studies and business from Virginia and later earned a master's degree in sports management from the University of Florida.

After making her WTA Tour main-draw debut at the 2014 US Open, Collins turned fully professional in mid-2016. She broke into the top 50 in 2018 following a title win at the Newport Beach WTA 125 event and a semifinal run at the Miami Open, where she became the first qualifier in tournament history to reach the semifinals after defeating Venus Williams.

Collins reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2019 Australian Open, defeating world No. 2 Angelique Kerber along the way. Despite being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in late 2019 and undergoing surgery for endometriosis in 2021, she won her first two WTA Tour singles titles in 2021 at the Palermo Ladies Open and the Silicon Valley Classic. In 2022, Collins reached the final of the Australian Open, which propelled her into the top 10 as the top-ranked American female player.

In 2023, Collins won her first WTA doubles title at the Charleston Open alongside Desirae Krawczyk. Although she initially announced that 2024 would be her final season on tour, she produced a notable run of form that included capturing the Miami Open singles title. Following a persistent back injury at the end of the 2025 season, Collins announced she would sit out the start of the 2026 season to recover physically.
