d4vd

d4vd (born David Anthony Burke on March 28, 2005) is an American singer and songwriter recognized for his lo-fi pop, indie rock, and alternative R&B music. Born in Queens, New York, and raised in Houston, Texas, he gained international prominence in 2022 with his viral breakout hit singles "Romantic Homicide" and "Here with Me." Operating with a DIY recording approach initially using his mobile phone, he built a massive fanbase across social media and streaming platforms, eventually releasing multiple extended plays and his debut studio album, Withered, through Darkroom and Interscope Records.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Burke spent his early childhood in Queens, New York City, before relocating with his family to Houston, Texas. Home-schooled for much of his youth, he initially focused on gaming and online video content, running YouTube channels dedicated to gameplay montages of the popular battle royale game Fortnite. To avoid copyright strikes on his gaming videos, Burke began composing and recording his own background music in 2021 using the mobile production application BandLab. His original compositions quickly caught the attention of viewers, prompting him to pivot toward a serious career in music production and songwriting under the stage name d4vd.

Breakout and Commercial Success

In mid-2022, d4vd released the indie-pop single "Romantic Homicide," which went viral on TikTok and entered major international charts, earning multi-platinum certifications. He followed up with the ballad "Here with Me" later that year, which achieved similar global streaming success. Signed to Darkroom and Interscope Records, he released his debut extended play, Petals to Thorns, in May 2023, followed by a companion EP, The Lost Petals, in September 2023. His music has been featured on major soundtracks, including contributions to animated series and video game soundtracks. In April 2025, he released his debut full-length studio album, Withered, which debuted on the Billboard 200 chart.

Digital Presence and Legacy

Known for his genre-blending style that fuses elements of indie rock, bedroom pop, and R&B, d4vd accumulated billions of streams across platforms worldwide. His official YouTube channel (@d4vd) has gathered over 2.4 million subscribers, while his primary Instagram profile (@d4vddd) maintains over 1.6 million followers. His rise from an indie gamer creating tracks on a smartphone to an internationally recognized recording artist made him one of the defining viral breakout acts of the mid-2020s streaming era.
