Amel Bent

Amel Bent Bachir, known professionally as Amel Bent, is a French-Algerian pop singer who gained prominent recognition after competing on the second season of the French television singing competition Nouvelle Star. Following her appearance on the show, where she reached the semi-finals, she established herself as the best-selling recording artist to emerge from that competition.

Bent was born on June 21, 1985, and grew up in the Paris suburb of La Courneuve alongside a brother and a sister. She was raised by her Algerian father and Moroccan mother.

Her professional career took off following her performance on Nouvelle Star 2, the French adaptation of Pop Idol. Although she did not reach the finals, her performances attracted the attention of music producers. Late in 2004, she released her debut studio album, titled Un Jour d'été. The album achieved significant commercial success, selling over 550,000 copies in France. Its primary success was driven by the lead single "Ma philosophie," which sold more than 500,000 copies and held the top position on the French music charts for over six weeks.

Throughout her career, Bent expanded into various television projects and music collaborations. In 2011, she released the single "Je reste," featuring a co-starring appearance by actor Karl E. Landler. The following year, in 2012, she participated as a contestant on the third season of Danse avec les stars alongside her professional dance partner Christophe Licata. The duo finished the regular competition in second place and subsequently won the show's Christmas special.

In addition to her recording career, Bent has served as a television coach on prominent music reality franchises. She was a coach on The Voice Kids France from 2018 to 2019. She later joined the main panel of The Voice France, serving as a coach from 2020 through 2023, with a return scheduled for 2026.
