Modern horror favorite Maika Monroe is set to deliver another striking performance on the big screen. On November 4, 2026, distributor Bleecker Street unveiled the final official trailer and announced that advance tickets are officially on sale for her upcoming period horror film, Victorian Psycho. Directed by Zachary Wigon, the darkly satirical movie stars Monroe as a seemingly polite 19th-century governess who harbors a chilling, bloodthirsty secret.
Adapted by author Virginia Feito from her own acclaimed novel, Victorian Psycho takes place in England in 1858. Monroe plays Winifred Notty, an eccentric young woman hired to educate the children of an affluent family at a remote, gloomy estate known as Ensor House. As household staff begin to vanish under mysterious circumstances, the family gradually realizes that their newly arrived employee is actually a cold-blooded killer hiding behind strict Victorian etiquette.
Monroe has firmly established herself as one of contemporary cinema's premier scream queens and dramatic actresses. She first gained wide critical acclaim for her starring role in David Robert Mitchell's 2014 indie horror classic It Follows. Over the years, she has sustained that momentum with lead roles in acclaimed thrillers such as Watcher and the 2024 blockbuster Longlegs alongside Nicolas Cage. Her ability to convey intense vulnerability alongside psychological complexity has made her a staple of modern genre filmmaking.
Victorian Psycho features an impressive supporting ensemble, including Thomasin McKenzie, Jason Isaacs, Ruth Wilson, and Jacobi Jupe. The film had its high-profile world premiere earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, where critics singled out Monroe's darkly comic and unsettling lead performance. Wigon's direction balances sharp commentary on social class and repression with stylized gothic horror elements.
Moviegoers will not have to wait long to experience the film, as Victorian Psycho is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters nationwide on Friday, November 13, 2026. The release kicks off a busy theatrical stretch for Monroe, who is also preparing to reprise her star-making role in They Follow, the highly anticipated sequel to It Follows. Early box office tracking suggests strong interest from horror fans eager to see Monroe turn the tables in a period setting.
