Academy Award-nominated actor Richard E. Grant officially stepped into the Scottish Highlands as the second series of BBC’s smash-hit reality competition The Celebrity Traitors premiered on October 1, 2026. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman at Ardross Castle, the popular series features Grant as one of 21 famous contestants navigating mind games, secrecy, and tactical deception in a bid to win up to £100,000 for their chosen charities.
Entering the castle alongside an eclectic cast that includes actors Michael Sheen and Bella Ramsey, as well as musicians and comedians, Grant expressed enthusiasm for the psychological nature of the show. The competition requires participants to work together while secretly assigned roles as either Faithfuls or Traitors. The Faithfuls attempt to identify and banish covert Traitors during daily round-table discussions, while the Traitors secretly eliminate players each night under the cover of darkness.
Grant revealed that he was drawn to the program because of its intense gameplay and unpredictable social dynamics, noting that even expert knowledge cannot easily solve the mystery when paranoia takes hold. His participation in the BBC One flagship series represents a high-profile television appearance for the veteran star, who is competing on behalf of his chosen charitable organization during the ten-episode run.
With a distinguished career spanning four decades across stage, screen, and literature, Grant first gained widespread acclaim for his iconic breakthrough performance as the erratic title character in the 1987 British dark comedy film Withnail and I. Over the years, he has established himself as a versatile character actor in international productions, appearing in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Gosford Park, The Iron Lady, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
In 2018, Grant received widespread critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his turn as Jack Hock in the biographical drama Can You Ever Forgive Me?, starring opposite Melissa McCarthy. He has also expanded his work into television with roles in Loki, Downton Abbey, and Girls. The Celebrity Traitors airs twice weekly on BBC One and BBC iPlayer throughout October 2026.
