Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber is set to headline Apple TV's new psychological thriller series Nocturne, which makes its global streaming debut on October 30, 2026. Following an October world premiere at the Regal Union Square in New York City and subsequent press events in late October, Schreiber has been actively promoting the gripping crime series, in which he stars as former Philadelphia homicide detective Jonah Lynn.
Adapted from the internationally bestselling Joona Linna crime novels Lazarus and The Sandman by author duo Lars Kepler, Nocturne follows Jonah Lynn as he moves to a quiet western Pennsylvania town seeking a peaceful life. However, his tranquil domestic environment is shattered when an imprisoned, diabolical serial killer named Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham, targets Lynn's family. To save a missing victim, Lynn sends his protégé, FBI Agent Saga Bauer (played by Zazie Beetz), undercover into a psychiatric facility to extract crucial answers.
Executive produced by Schreiber alongside showrunner John Hlavin and director Tim Van Patten, Nocturne features a high-caliber supporting cast including Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, and Gary Carr. The series combines intense psychological suspense with character-driven drama, offering complex roles for its main leads.
Schreiber is widely recognized for his acclaimed, long-running role as the title character in Showtime's crime drama series Ray Donovan, which earned him five Golden Globe nominations and three Primetime Emmy nominations. His distinguished stage and screen career includes winning a Tony Award for his performance in Broadway's Glengarry Glen Ross, as well as starring roles in Spotlight, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Manchurian Candidate, and the iconic horror franchise Scream.
Early critical response to Nocturne has praised Schreiber's grounded, commanding leading performance and the series' claustrophobic atmospheric tension. With its first two episodes dropping simultaneously, the show is poised to become one of Apple TV's flagship drama releases for the autumn season.
