Paul Panzer

Paul Panzer, born Paul Wolfgang Panzerbeiter on November 3, 1872, was a German-American silent film actor. Over the course of his career, he appeared in more than 330 films between 1905 and 1952.

Panzer was born in Würzburg, Bavaria. His early education included studying pharmacy at the University of Würzburg, as well as studying vocal music at the Conservatory of Würzburg. Before departing Germany, he served as a lieutenant in the country's artillery reserves.

After moving to New York City, Panzer worked building sets and painting scenes for a film studio, which developed his interest in the film industry. He also pursued live theater, working for Augustin Daly as both a stage performer and a stage manager.

Panzer achieved his best-known role playing Koerner / Raymond Owen in the film serial The Perils of Pauline. Later in his career, from 1934 through the 1950s, he worked under contract to Warner Brothers as an extra actor.

In his personal life, Panzer was married to his wife, Josephine, with whom he had a son and a daughter. Following his retirement from acting, he lived with his daughter in Culver City, California. Panzer died on August 16, 1958, in Hollywood, California, and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.
