Laufey

Laufey — full name Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir — is an Icelandic singer-songwriter born on 23 April 1999. Known mononymously as Laufey (pronounced LAY-vay), she has become one of the most distinctive young voices in contemporary music, blending jazz pop with classical influences into a sound that has introduced a new generation to the standards tradition.

Raised in Reykjavík with Icelandic and Chinese heritage, Laufey trained as a classical musician from an early age. She performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at fifteen, and gained early public attention as a finalist on Iceland's Got Talent in 2014 and a semifinalist on The Voice Iceland in 2015. She later studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2021.

Laufey began releasing her own music in 2020 and issued her debut EP, Typical of Me, in 2021. Her debut studio album, Everything I Know About Love (2022), charted in both Iceland and the United States. Her second album, Bewitched (2023), became a critical and commercial landmark: it won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024 and produced the breakout single "From the Start."

She sustained that momentum with her third studio album, A Matter of Time (2025), preceded by the singles "Silver Lining" and "Lover Girl." Across streaming and social platforms, Laufey has built a large and devoted young audience and is frequently credited with helping revive mainstream interest in jazz-influenced songwriting. Her work pairs intimate, literate lyricism with lush orchestration, and she has toured internationally to sold-out audiences.
