About Naomi Smalls
Naomi Smalls is the drag persona of Davis Heppenstall, an American reality television figure and drag performer. She gained widespread public attention as a runner-up on both the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race and the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. Her stage name derives from supermodel Naomi Campbell and hip-hop artist Biggie Smalls.
Born on September 8, 1993, in Fresno, California, Heppenstall was raised in Redlands following his adoption. He grew up in a large household alongside eight brothers and three sisters, many of whom were likewise adopted. His adoptive mother, June, has been highlighted as one of his primary supporters throughout his career.
Heppenstall entered the national spotlight in early 2016 when she was announced as the youngest competitor on season eight of RuPaul's Drag Race at the age of 21. During her time on the show, she survived a bottom-two lip-sync performance in the fifth episode after portraying Tiffany Pollard in the Snatch Game. She subsequently won the season's makeover challenge involving cast members from Little Women: LA, ultimately reaching the finale and finishing as a co-runner-up alongside Kim Chi.
Smalls returned to the franchise in late 2018 for RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4. After a strong initial showing, she survived an elimination lip-sync against Gia Gunn in a mid-season challenge and later secured a victory in the makeover episode. Her decision to eliminate front-runner Manila Luzon during that episode generated significant discussion. Smalls reached the final episode once again, tying as runner-up alongside Monique Heart and becoming the first contestant since Raven to place as a runner-up in two separate seasons.
Following her television appearances, Smalls expanded her media presence. She co-hosted the digital beauty critique series M.U.G. alongside Kim Chi and made frequent guest appearances on Fashion Photo RuView. In February 2018, she interviewed music artist Cardi B for Cosmopolitan magazine and launched her personal YouTube docuseries, Small's World, which chronicled her national touring experiences. That same year, she launched her debut musical single, "Pose," accompanied by a music video, and made an appearance in Manila Luzon's video for "Go Fish."
In September 2019, Smalls was selected to join the rotating cast of the Las Vegas residency show RuPaul's Drag Race Live! at the Flamingo Las Vegas. Continuing her work in digital television, she was announced in 2024 as part of the cast for Painting with Raven, a competitive spin-off featured on the WOW Presents Plus platform.
