Emmy-nominated actress Linda Cardellini is taking center stage as Peacock prepares for the upcoming launch of its highly anticipated horror prequel series, Crystal Lake. On October 1, 2026, details were announced regarding an immersive fan event at New York Comic Con ahead of the show's premiere, highlighting Cardellini's lead performance as Pamela Voorhees. The upcoming series revisits the origin story of the iconic Friday the 13th franchise, putting a fresh narrative focus on the tragic backstory of its initial antagonist.
Developed by showrunner Brad Caleb Kane and produced by indie studio A24, Crystal Lake explores the events preceding the classic 1980 slasher film. Cardellini portrays Pam Voorhees, a devoted single mother residing near Camp Crystal Lake who is consumed by grief following the tragic drowning of her young son, Jason. The story kicks off when outside investigators arrive to probe her past, triggering a suspenseful chain of events that exposes deep secrets within the surrounding community.
Speaking about taking on the foundational horror role, Cardellini noted that portraying Pamela Voorhees offered a rare opportunity to explore a complex, multi-layered female slasher character. The eight-episode series builds on the horror lore created by Victor Miller, featuring a supporting ensemble that includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Callum Vinson as the young Jason Voorhees. The production represents one of Peacock’s biggest genre undertakings of the year.
Cardellini brings decades of acclaimed television and film experience to the project. She first earned wide prominence as Lindsay Weir in the beloved 1999 cult classic series Freaks and Geeks, before starring as Nurse Samantha Taggart on the long-running medical drama ER. Her television career also includes acclaimed roles as Meg Rayburn in Netflix’s Bloodline and Judy Hale in the dark comedy series Dead to Me, the latter of which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress.
In film, Cardellini has appeared in major titles such as Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, Hawkeye's wife Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and featured roles in Brokeback Mountain and the Oscar-winning Best Picture Green Book. All eight episodes of Crystal Lake are scheduled to premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026.
