Award-winning director Greta Gerwig officially debuted the first trailer and exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette for her highly anticipated film, Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, on October 13, 2026. The preview event took place at AMC Lincoln Center in New York City, where Gerwig appeared alongside television host Stephen Colbert to showcase the footage on a massive IMAX screen ahead of its global digital premiere.
Adapted from C.S. Lewis's 1955 fantasy novel, the upcoming feature serves as the first chronological entry in the Chronicles of Narnia series. The story follows young Digory Kirke and his neighbor Polly as they uncover magical rings that send them across alternate realms, ultimately witnessing the magical creation of Narnia by the lion Aslan. The trailer is set to Led Zeppelin's iconic track Stairway to Heaven, setting a grand and adventurous tone for the wide-scope production.
The film boasts an ensemble cast combining fresh talent with established Hollywood stars. Young actors David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell lead the cast as Digory and Polly, starring alongside Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Denise Gough, and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. The production relied heavily on immersive physical sets filmed across the United Kingdom, including Shepperton and Longcross Studios.
This project represents Gerwig's first directorial outing following the overwhelming critical and commercial success of her 2023 blockbuster Barbie, which surpassed $1.4 billion at the global box office. Gerwig previously earned Academy Award nominations for writing and directing Lady Bird in 2017 and Little Women in 2019, solidifying her reputation as one of modern cinema's most acclaimed storytellers.
Narnia: The Magician's Nephew marks a milestone distribution strategy for Netflix, offering the streaming platform's longest theatrical window to date. The movie will begin exclusive IMAX sneak previews on February 10, 2027, before launching in theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027. Following its 45-day exclusive theatrical run, the fantasy film will become available for streaming on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
