FX has officially released the first trailer for the second season of its critically acclaimed neo-noir series The Lowdown, confirming the show's return this autumn. Created, written, and directed by Sterlin Harjo, the gritty Oklahoma drama stars Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke as Lee Raybon, a self-styled citizen journalist and local "truthstorian" in Tulsa whose relentless fixation on exposing institutional corruption repeatedly lands him in dangerous situations.
The new trailer gives viewers a first look at the unfolding narrative for Season 2, which sees Hawke's character diving into a complex conspiracy involving unsolved homicides and local law enforcement. The upcoming season significantly expands its ensemble with high-profile additions, including Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones as Lee's estranged father, Lee Raybon Sr., and four-time Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin as Ginger, a sharp public defender who partners with Lee on a missing persons investigation. The supporting cast includes Keith David, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Killer Mike.
The Lowdown marked Hawke's first regular leading role in an ongoing television series when it debuted in 2025. A prolific presence in American independent and mainstream cinema for four decades, Hawke gained international prominence for his roles in Dead Poets Society, Reality Bites, and the celebrated Before trilogy directed by Richard Linklater. Hawke has received four Academy Award nominations over his career, including acting nods for Training Day and Boyhood, as well as screenwriting nominations for Before Sunset and Before Midnight. His recent projects include directing the biographical film Wildcat and starring in the thriller drama The Weight.
Series creator Sterlin Harjo previously earned widespread critical acclaim as the co-creator and showrunner of FX's Peabody Award-winning series Reservation Dogs. Produced by FX Productions, The Lowdown combines dark humor, crime noir aesthetics, and regional storytelling. Season 2 of The Lowdown is scheduled to premiere on October 14, 2026, on FX, with episodes available for streaming on Hulu the following day. International audiences will be able to stream the new season on Disney+ as part of the network's global release strategy.
