Early Career and Breakthrough Releases
Following their initial debut, Blackpink built immediate momentum with their late 2016 follow-up release, Square Two, which included popular tracks such as Playing with Fire and Stay. In 2017, the group released the standalone digital single As If It's Your Last, which further bolstered their domestic and international standing. The group's breakthrough into the global mainstream intensified in 2018 with the release of their first Korean extended play, Square Up. The project's lead single, Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, became a historic breakthrough, charting significantly on international music tallies and establishing a record-breaking music video view count for K-pop groups at the time.
In 2019, Blackpink extended their global reach with the release of their extended play Kill This Love. The title track achieved wide commercial success and further consolidated their signature high-energy pop-hip-hop sound. That same year, the group achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first female Korean group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States, earning acclaim for their commanding live band performances and stage production.
Studio Albums and International Heights
Blackpink released their full-length studio album, titled The Album, in October 2020. Supported by hit singles including How You Like That, Ice Cream featuring Selena Gomez, and Lovesick Girls, the record achieved massive global commercial success. It debuted at number two on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, setting a record for the highest-charting album by a Korean female act on both tallies. The Album also made Blackpink the first K-pop girl group to sell over one million copies of an album.
In September 2022, the group returned with their studio album Born Pink. Preceded by the lead single Pink Venom and accompanied by the title track Shut Down, the album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making Blackpink the first female group to top the chart since 2008. To support the release, Blackpink embarked on the extensive Born Pink World Tour from late 2022 through late 2023, performing across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The tour broke records as the highest-grossing concert tour by a female K-pop act in history. In April 2023, the group achieved another major career milestone by headlining the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Solo Pursuits, Contract Renewals, and Recent Projects
In late 2023, all four members renewed their exclusive contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities while choosing to manage their individual solo endeavors through independent labels and management agencies. During 2024 and 2025, the members focused heavily on solo singles, acting roles, fashion appointments, and brand ambassadorships, while reaffirming their commitment to collective Blackpink endeavors.
The group officially reunited for collective group activities with the launch of their DEADLINE World Tour, which kicked off in mid-2025. Following extensive tour dates across major international venues, Blackpink officially released their mini-album, DEADLINE, in February 2026. The release was met with broad enthusiasm from their global fanbase, reaffirming the group's enduring international popularity and position atop the music industry.
