Golden Globe nominee and award-winning actress Sarah Michelle Gellar delivered one of the standout moments at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14, 2026, reuniting on stage with her former co-star David Boreanaz. Appearing together at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the iconic television duo took the stage as presenters while celebrating the upcoming 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Dressed in a vibrant custom pink evening gown, Gellar engaged in sharp, humorous on-stage banter with Boreanaz regarding the complex, centuries-wide romantic dynamic between their beloved screen characters, teenage slayer Buffy Summers and soulful vampire Angel. During their presentation, Gellar earned warm laughter and applause from the auditorium with a witty reference to recent industry headlines before presenting the Primetime Emmy Award for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie to winner Matthew Rhys.

Gellar first achieved global superstardom playing the titular heroine in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and became a defining cultural cornerstone of modern television. Her acclaimed performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination and multiple Teen Choice Awards. Beyond her signature television role, Gellar established herself as a major cinematic lead during the late 1990s and 2000s, starring in hit horror films I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2, the cult romantic drama Cruel Intentions, and the live-action Scooby-Doo franchise.

In addition to her acting achievements, Gellar has built an extensive portfolio as a producer, entrepreneur, and author. She executive produced and starred in the Paramount+ supernatural series Wolf Pack and co-founded the organic baking brand Foodstirs. More recently, she joined the star-studded cast of Showtime's prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, reaffirming her long-standing presence as a mainstay of contemporary television drama.

The Emmys appearance offered dedicated television viewers a touching moment of nostalgia while honoring the enduring cultural legacy of the Buffy franchise. During their presentation, Gellar and Boreanaz also took a heartfelt moment to acknowledge former cast members and crew who passed away in recent years. As the franchise approaches its 30th anniversary in March 2027, Gellar continues to maintain an active schedule across high-profile streaming television projects, brand ventures, and selective red-carpet appearances.
