Actor James McAvoy made headlines following an appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where he revealed that he experienced on-set bullying during the filming of the acclaimed 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. Speaking on the broadcast, the Scottish star recalled how a fellow cast member mocked him on his very first day as a professional actor.

McAvoy explained that he was fresh out of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama when he landed the role of Private First Class James W. Miller in the miniseries' fourth episode, titled Replacements. Because his character had a prominent narrative arc and extensive dialogue, certain actors who had been on set for months with minimal lines reacted with visible jealousy, pointing and laughing at him during a bar scene. While McAvoy declined to name the specific individual involved, he confirmed that co-stars Dexter Fletcher and Robin Laing stepped in to support him.

Despite the early setback, McAvoy quickly established himself as one of his generation's most versatile leading men. His breakout screen performance came in the 2005 fantasy film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, followed by critically acclaimed roles in The Last King of Scotland and the period drama Atonement, which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination.

McAvoy achieved global fame playing the younger incarnation of Professor Charles Xavier in four X-Men films from 2011 to 2019. He further demonstrated his dynamic range through intense psychological thrillers, including his acclaimed portrayal of multiple personalities in M. Night Shyamalan's Split and Glass, as well as starring roles in IT Chapter Two and the HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials.

McAvoy noted during the broadcast that while his initial day on set was challenging, he rates the overall experience on Band of Brothers very highly. The actor is currently promoting his latest film projects while continuing to take on diverse stage and screen roles across independent and studio cinema.
