Actress Jessica Biel has officially joined the cast of Playmates, an upcoming Searchlight Pictures feature drama set within the historic gates of the Playboy Mansion. Written and directed by filmmaker Lorraine Nicholson in her feature directorial debut, the project is directly inspired by Nicholson's personal childhood experiences visiting and spending time at the famous Holmby Hills estate.
Biel is set to portray a fictional former Playboy Playmate who goes on to marry the magazine's founder, Hugh Hefner, played by veteran actor Bill Pullman. Although Hefner was married three times in real life, filmmakers clarified that Biel's character is an original composite creation designed to explore the estate's internal household dynamics. The production also stars Lily-Rose Depp as a hopeful young model striving to become Playmate of the Month and child actress Indiana Elle as a precocious thirteen-year-old girl who considers the mansion her second home.
Biel first achieved widespread public fame during the late 1990s for her breakthrough starring role as Mary Camden on the acclaimed family drama series 7th Heaven. She subsequently transitioned into feature films, building a dynamic career across multiple cinematic genres. Her notable movie credits include the horror hit remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the romantic period mystery The Illusionist, the action thriller Cellular, and the sci-fi spectacle Total Recall.
In recent years, Biel has garnered substantial critical accolades for her work as a television lead and executive producer. She earned Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for her performance in the anthology drama series The Sinner. She maintained her momentum in prestige television by starring in the true-crime drama Candy and executive producing Prime Video's drama series The Better Sister alongside Elizabeth Banks.
The casting announcement comes during an exceptionally active stretch for Biel, who is also celebrating the global launch of Apple Original Films' action comedy Matchbox The Movie alongside co-star John Cena. Filming for Playmates is scheduled to take place across Los Angeles under the banner of Searchlight Pictures, with High Frequency Entertainment producing and Lily-Rose Depp pulling double duty as both co-star and producer. The feature aims to deliver a fresh coming-of-age story by viewing the iconic estate through the unique perspective of youth.
