Nyma Tang

Nyma Tang is an American beauty YouTuber. She gained online popularity in 2017 through her YouTube series, The Darkest Shade. In this series, she reviews the darkest shades of makeup products from various brands and highlights the under-representation of deeper skin tones within the beauty industry.

Tang was born in Ethiopia to South Sudanese parents, and her native language is Nuer. The oldest of seven sisters, she relocated with her family to the United States at three years old. During her school years, she experienced bullying due to her skin color. She later began training as a nurse before dropping out at age 21 to pursue a full-time career as a beauty vlogger.

Tang's interest in makeup developed after she watched America's Next Top Model, which introduced her to Black women models being publicly celebrated. She launched her YouTube channel at the age of 25. In 2017, she began recording The Darkest Shade to help women with darker skin tones find suitable makeup matches.

Through her platform and series, Tang works to educate viewers about colorism and lobbies cosmetics brands to produce more inclusive shade ranges. In addition to makeup reviews, she uses her channel to share her personal experiences with natural hair.

Throughout her career, Tang has partnered with several prominent cosmetics companies. In 2018, she created her own custom shade of MAC Cosmetics lipstick named 'Nyma Tang'. She has also collaborated on sponsored content with brands including Fenty Beauty, Bobbi Brown, and Pat McGrath.
