Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins put the finishing touches on a solid preseason run, scoring 13 points in just 15 minutes during Friday night's exhibition finale against the Orlando Magic. With Miami gearing up to open the 2026–27 NBA regular season against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Kaseya Center, Wiggins sent out a concise two-word message on social media signaling his focus for the new campaign.
Now entering his 13th season in the league, Wiggins has established himself as one of the most reliable two-way wings in professional basketball. Originally selected as the top overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the former Kansas Jayhawk evolved from a primary scoring option early in his career to an NBA champion and All-Star with the Golden State Warriors. Since arriving in South Florida, Wiggins has tailored his game to fit head coach Erik Spoelstra's demanding system, offering lockdown perimeter defense alongside dependable floor spacing.
Wiggins is coming off an efficient 2025–26 campaign where he averaged 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while connecting on a career-best 41.4 percent of his three-point attempts. His strong fit within Miami's culture prompted front-office executives to secure his long-term future, signing the veteran wing to a three-year, $64 million contract extension. With superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo joining Bam Adebayo on Miami's roster alongside veteran shooting additions, Wiggins will play a paramount role in anchoring the Heat's defensive unit while benefiting from open perimeter looks created by opposing defenses keying on his star teammates.
As the Heat launch their regular-season push, Wiggins' two-way versatility will remain essential to Miami's Eastern Conference title aspirations. Head coach Erik Spoelstra and the staff will count heavily on his durability and defensive consistency to balance out their star-studded rotation and maintain high-level execution throughout the demanding 82-game regular season.
