The American crime drama “The Cleaning Lady” has made a surprise arrival on Netflix in Germany, where the streamer released the show’s complete run — all of its seasons and 46 episodes — at once. After years without a German streaming home, the series quickly climbed the country’s Netflix charts following the unexpected drop.
The show follows Thony De La Rosa, played by Élodie Yung, a Cambodian-Filipino doctor who travels to the United States seeking treatment for her seriously ill young son. Stranded as an undocumented immigrant when her visa lapses, she takes work as a cleaner and is pulled into the orbit of organised crime after witnessing a murder — using her medical skills and sharp mind to survive between two dangerous worlds.
Around Yung’s lead performance, the series built a large ensemble. Martha Millan plays Thony’s devoted cousin Fiona, while Adan Canto and Santiago Cabrera feature among the crime-world figures she becomes entangled with. Oliver Hudson appears as FBI agent Garrett Miller, Eva De Dominici as Nadia Morales, Navid Negahban as the crime boss Hayak Barsamian, and Naveen Andrews and Kate del Castillo join in later seasons.
Created by Miranda Kwok and adapted from an Argentine format, “The Cleaning Lady” originally aired on the U.S. network Fox from 2022, running for four seasons before concluding. Its blend of family drama, medical tension and crime thriller earned it a loyal following in the United States.
