About Claud Mintz

Claud Mintz, known professionally by the mononym Claud, is an American singer-songwriter and musician recognized for their contributions to the bedroom pop and indie pop genres. Raised in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois, Claud first gained wider attention through collaborative projects before launching a successful solo career. Known for candid storytelling, romantic lyricism, and engaging melodies, Claud became notable as the first artist signed to Phoebe Bridgers' record label, Saddest Factory Records.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Claud Mintz grew up in Highland Park, Illinois, where they began writing music and playing guitar during their youth. After graduating from high school, Claud enrolled at Syracuse University in September 2017. While at university, they met fellow student Josh Mehling and formed the indie pop duo Toast in their college dorm room. The pair released a self-titled debut EP in 2018 under Terrible Records. Wanting to pursue music on a full-time basis, Claud left Syracuse University in 2019 to relocate to New York City and focus on writing and recording solo material under the name Claud.

The following year, Claud teamed up with singer Clairo, Josh Mehling, and Noa Frances Getzug to form the indie supergroup Shelly, releasing the popular tracks "Steeeam" and "Natural". In late 2020, Claud made history as the inaugural signee to Saddest Factory Records, an imprint created by Phoebe Bridgers in partnership with Dead Oceans. Claud released their debut full-length album, Super Monster, in February 2021 to critical acclaim, propelled by standout tracks like "Soft Spot" and "Gold". In July 2023, they released their second studio album, Supermodels, expanding their signature sound while touring extensively alongside artists such as Bleachers.
