Adam Savage

Adam Whitney Savage (born July 15, 1967) is an American special effects designer, model maker, television personality, and digital content creator. He rose to global prominence as the co-host of the long-running Discovery Channel science entertainment television series MythBusters, alongside Jamie Hyneman. Renowned for his hands-on maker skills, enthusiastic delivery, and dedication to STEM education, Savage has established himself as one of the most recognized science popularizers and DIY educators in contemporary media.

Early Life and Career Origins

Born in New York City and raised in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Savage grew up in an artistic and creative household. His father was an animator and painter who contributed to iconic children's shows such as Sesame Street, while his mother worked as a psychotherapist. From a young age, Savage pursued acting, graphic design, and practical fabrication. By his twenties, he transitioned into professional special effects work, building models, props, and animatronics for prominent commercial and theatrical productions. His early industry work included contributing to high-profile feature films such as Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, The Matrix Reloaded, and Galaxy Quest while working at Industrial Light & Magic and other major visual effects studios.

Television Success and MythBusters

In 2003, Savage partnered with fellow special effects specialist Jamie Hyneman to co-host MythBusters. Over 14 seasons and more than 200 episodes, the duo tested hundreds of urban legends, internet rumors, and movie myths using rigorous scientific methodology, custom engineering, and large-scale practical experiments. The show earned multiple Emmy nominations and widespread acclaim for inspiring interest in science, physics, and engineering.
